Architecture

Architecture is not only held in the greatest regard by "Seinfeld" character, George Costanza, but it's a career field where you can literally create the blueprints for your own success. For one thing, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, one out of four architects are self-employed. In order to take your interest in building design to the next level, you'll have to settle in to study toward an a professional architecture degree, which can take five or more years to complete. After earning a profesional degree in architecture and three years of work training, you'll then have to pass the Architect Registration Examination (all states require architects to be licensed). With the foundation of these architecture credentials, plus added skills in computer-aided design and drafting technology, you'll be ready to begin building a lucrative architecture career. Architects are responsible for more than what a building will look like. Factors like safety, budget, and functionality all go into an architecture project. Architecture is certainly a complex field, but one with rewards that include high earnings (the highest 10 percent earned just under $100,000!), favorable working conditions (most likely in your home office), and the thrill of seeing your architectural creation come to life.
